The Financial and Managerial Accounting Associate (FMAA) is a foundational certification developed by the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA).
Employers seek candidates with solid foundational skills in areas like financial and managerial accounting, as these abilities are essential for understanding and communicating the language of business. The FMAA provides this foundation.
There are no educational or experience requirements to earn your FMAA!
Interested candidates can register to take the FMAA on the IMA’s website by creating an account and paying an exam fee.

What is Tested on the FMAA exam?
Five key topic areas are tested on the exam:
1) General accounting and financial management
2) Financial statement preparation and analysis
3) Planning and budgeting
4) Cost management and performance metrics
5) Professional ethics
While there are no education requirements, the key topics listed above can be found in traditional college courses such as Principles of Accounting, Intermediate Accounting and Cost Accounting.
The exam is 80 multiple choice questions offered at Prometric testing centers year-round.
