Tax Season Tip: Cyber Security

taxtip1

In the tax industry we deal with a lot of personal information such as; social security numbers, credit card numbers, personal information of our kids, and much more. What if someone hacked into your office database and gained access to all your client’s information. What would you do? Most likely you will call your I.T. department.

Since this world now lives in the digital age, any person can gain access to your computer and take all your information. We must keep in mind that every 4.2 seconds that passed in 2017, a new malware specimen was created. So you must be asking yourself, how do we stay protected?

Properly train your staff on cyber security protocols. For example, don’t open e-mail attachments if they look suspicious, or if they are coming from an unusual email.

Always keep your PC/Server up to date for the latest system updates. Have a good firewall on your network, a good antivirus program installed, and don’t use the same password for everything.

Most importantly always have a backup of your most important data. These are just basics of what can be done, but there are many tools out there to help defeat the virtual thieves.
